Daily/weekly quests

Rotating objectives that refresh on a fixed daily or weekly schedule, offering currency, experience, or reputation for completing a handful of bite-sized tasks. Destiny 2's weekly milestones and World of Warcraft's daily quest hubs both give players a reliable, repeatable source of progression that structures return visits and caps how much can be earned in a single sitting. Designers use daily/weekly quests to create login habits and regular engagement cadence, to smooth out reward pacing (preventing marathon grinding from front-loading all progress), and to give players with limited playtime a meaningful, achievable goal each session. Key decisions: reward scale relative to time investment (must feel worth logging in for, without dominating the overall progression curve), whether quests roll over or expire unclaimed, variety in objective types to avoid monotony, and how they interact with catch-up mechanics for lapsed players. Pitfall: dailies that feel like unskippable chores rather than optional bonuses create a sense of obligation that erodes goodwill — the design must make missing a day feel like a minor opportunity cost, not a failure.
